I just finished this book today! It is a quick read, and I highly recommend it!

Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin

Beautiful story, beautiful writing, beautiful imagery, lots of food for thought. Chinese folk tales are laced throughout the book. It is a story about a girl who goes in search of answers that will bring her family fortune, but what she learns along the way proves to be worth more than any worldy fortune could amount to. I think that I will read this one again out loud to my children....lots of great discussions could result from this sweet story.

Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy by Gary D. Schmidt

Very good book. After reading and enjoying the Wednesday Wars by this same author, I knew that I had to check this book out and it did not disappoint. I love Schmidt's writing style and his characters. His books pull you in and you can't stop reading until you finish the book and even then it leaves you wanting more. Loved how this book evoked many emotions...anger, sorrow, fear and a little humor too.

Another book finished

With 2 sick kids and a baby to care for, I've had more time than usual to sit and read. But of course, nothing else is getting done, and that's OK, because cuddling my kids is where I need to be right now. Last week we went on a little family vacation to Lake Tahoe and we had a fabulous time. My mom and dad met us there and spent the week with us. My mom and I hit just about every thrift store in the Tahoe area and I picked up a bunch of books for the kids to read (one of my favorite things to look for at thrift stores). So because this book was $.25 and because it won the Newbery award and because the title was Maniac Magee, I figured this had to be a great book...and I was right. Here is my Goodreads review.

Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli

A great story about love and acceptance. Maniac Magee has lived a hard life, but he's a boy who believes in himself and finds love and acceptance in the most unexpected of places. I love the end of this book! You'll have to read it for yourself to find out why.

Finished another fabulous book! I found this book through Erik's book order at school and thought that it looked good....I am so glad that I bought this book as I will definitely read this again at some point. Now I need to hand it over to Erik and let him read it as well. Here is my review for Goodreads.

Fabulous story! If you liked Al Capone Does My Shirts by Gennifer Choldenko, then you will love The Wednesday Wars by Gary D. Schmidt too. This is a great coming of age story about a boy who learns a lot of life lessons by reading Shakespeare with a teacher who changes his life. You'll fall in love with Holling Hoodhood. This book is funny and tender at the same time. I highly recommend it!

Home again...

Just got home from my girls weekend in Utah. We shopped and crafted and celebrated my sister Ali and her new little baby due later this month and ate out and of course ate way too much junk food. Needless to say that I had a great time. Thanks everyone for making time to hang out with me. But now I am very happy to he home with all my boys. I missed them. While I was enjoying some quality "me" time I finished this fabulous book. Check it out!

I just finished this book over the weekend and I absolutely loved it! I couldn't put it down. I fell in love with the characters and now I can't wait for the second book (Forge) to come out! Great historical fiction for kids! I highly recommend this book and I can't wait to read other books written by Laurie Halse Anderson.

Yep, Breaking Dawn! I was #34 on the list at the Library and I got one of the first copies! Started it last night and I can't wait to see how it ends!
